<달 시리즈의 시작점>
저는 얼굴에 기어다니는 형상인
“MamaCathy”라는 시리즈 작업을 하고 있어요.
자화상을 모티브로한 작품들인데
어느때인가 제가 만들고 있는 자화상의 나는
얼굴이 아니라 개미가 아닌가 하는 생각이 들었어요.
그래서 한번쯤은 얼굴이 아닌
개미에대한 이야기를 해보고 싶었습니다.
2023년 여름에 작업한 이 작품은
작년 개인전에 전시했던 “달 시리즈”의
파일럿 작품이라 볼수 있겠습니다.

언젠가는 날아올라 달에게 닿기를 꿈꾸는 개미.
치열하게 꾸었던 꿈의 조각들은 차갑게 식어
시퍼런 무덤이 되었지만,
뜨거운 달을 향한 마음은 차마 버리지 못하였다.
그리고, 비로소
그 문이.
살짝,
열렸다.
I’ve been working on a series called MamaCathy,
which features images of ants crawling across the face.
These works are based on self-portraits,
but at some point, I began to wonder—
what if the “self” I was depicting wasn’t the face,
but the ant itself?
That thought made me want to tell a story not of the face,
but of the ant.
This piece, created in the summer of 2023,
can be seen as the pilot work for the Moon Series,
which was later exhibited in my solo show last year.

An ant, dreaming one day it might soar high enough to touch the moon.
Fragments of its fierce, desperate dreams have long cooled—
becoming a cold, blue grave.
Yet still, it could not abandon its burning longing for the moon.
And at last—
the door
ever so gently,
opened.
